Floyd provides 49ers scouting report on ex-Bills teammate Allen

Matt Maiocco’s analysis of the 49ers’ recent struggles touches on the need for a “mental reset,” as San Francisco looks to regain its momentum in a challenging stretch of the season. This sentiment is echoed by Leonard Floyd, who spoke about the upcoming Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen.

Floyd, who played for Buffalo in 2023 before joining the 49ers, expressed excitement and respect for Allen, noting the intensity and competitiveness the quarterback brings to the field. In his interview with KNBR’s “Murph & Markus,” Floyd emphasized the importance of mental preparation for this game, stating that facing Allen demands the 49ers’ defense to be at its best. He also mentioned his own determination to give everything he has in the matchup, with hopes of getting to Allen and disrupting the Bills’ high-powered offense.

For the 49ers, this game represents a critical opportunity to reset mentally and prove they can compete at the level necessary to get back on track. Floyd’s focus on matching Allen’s energy could be a key factor in how San Francisco approaches the game and looks to turn their season around.

Floyd was teammates with Allen when the quarterback passed for 4,306 yards and had a 66.5% completion rate. Last season, Floyd posted 32 tackles and 10.5 sacks, which caught the attention of the 49ers.

Now, Floyd’s current team, San Francisco, sits at a disappointing 5-6, while Buffalo is thriving with a 9-2 record. However, the former Bill is optimistic about their upcoming matchup on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”

“Definitely,” Floyd said when asked if he had been looking forward to the game for months. “I definitely circled this one because Buffalo was a unique experience. They have amazing fans, and [Highmark Stadium] will be a tough environment for us. We’ll need to endure, stick together, and hopefully come out with a win.”

The 49ers are currently on a two-game losing streak, with quarterback Brock Purdy recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out of San Francisco’s 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, in Buffalo, Allen is a strong contender for the 2024 NFL MVP, having thrown for 2,543 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. The Bills are gearing up for a potential deep playoff run.
