Blockbuster Red Sox Trade Pitch Brings Boston Ideal Blake Snell Backup Plan

The Boston Red Sox were deeply engaged in free agency talks with San Francisco Giants ace Blake Snell. However, Snell ultimately chose to sign with the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers. As a result, Boston is now searching for a replacement who can step in as the team’s new ace.

Mark Powell of FanSided has suggested a trade that could provide the Red Sox with a perfect replacement for Blake Snell: Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet. Below is the full trade proposal outlined by Powell to bring Crochet to Boston.

Proposed Trade:

  • Boston Red Sox receive: LHP Garrett Crochet
  • Chicago White Sox receive: OF Wilyer Abreu, OF Braden Montgomery (No. 5 Red Sox prospect), OF Jhostynxon Garcia (No. 12 prospect), LHP Connelly Early (No. 24 prospect)

Mark Powell addressed potential fan backlash, writing:
“Red Sox fans will punt me into the sun for suggesting such a trade package, but please keep in mind this is a break-in-case-of-emergency deal. Boston would prefer to land Crochet without dealing any of their top-100 prospects, which is just unrealistic. Montgomery is ranked No. 54 in MLB Pipeline, but he’s also behind both Roman Anthony and potentially Kristian Campbell at his position.”

Blake Snell deal with Dodgers analysis

It’s clear the Red Sox are reluctant to part with a package of this caliber. Braden Montgomery, Boston’s first-round draft pick in 2024, is brimming with potential and was widely regarded as one of the top position players in his class. Jhostynxon Garcia and Connelly Early also bring value: Early holds a 4.00 ERA across 24 professional minor league starts, while Garcia delivered an impressive OPS nearing .900 in the minors last season.

Wilyer Abreu remains a valuable asset for Boston, but the team is seeking an upgrade over the young outfielder, making his inclusion in a potential deal noteworthy.

If the Red Sox exhaust all other options, this trade could become a viable solution. However, it’s likely Boston will explore the free-agent pitching market thoroughly before considering parting with Braden Montgomery to acquire Garrett Crochet.
