The Cowboys received an important injury update regarding the Giants’ quarterback situation just ahead of their Thanksgiving Day showdown with their NFC East rivals.
Tommy DeVito is reportedly unlikely to play after sustaining an injury in Week 12, with the Giants preparing for Drew Lock to start in his place. Despite being DeVito’s backup, Lock is a more experienced quarterback, which could pose a tougher challenge for the Cowboys’ defense.
Following an impressive win over the Commanders, where Mike Zimmer’s defense showed signs of improvement, the Cowboys now face uncertainty about who will be taking snaps for the Giants.
Giants Reportedly Planning to Start QB Drew Lock vs. Cowboys
After the Giants released Daniel Jones, who was quickly signed by the Minnesota Vikings, they turned to Tommy DeVito last week in a questionable move. The results were disappointing.
DeVito threw for 189 yards and avoided interceptions but was sacked four times in a humiliating 30-7 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has never been a reliable option, and it might be best for him to rest his injury rather than face the Cowboys’ formidable defensive line.
Drew Lock, who has a career completion rate of 59.5% for 5,292 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions, with five rushing touchdowns, will likely take the helm instead. Given the Giants’ disastrous season, this could provide the Cowboys an opportunity to deliver a blow to the Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen eras in New York.
While the Cowboys have been one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams, the Giants have been even worse. Though Dallas may not have much to play for, a win could still help shake up the Giants’ front office and coaching staff.
If DeVito doesn’t make a surprise return, the Cowboys are in a strong position with Lock as the starter. Dallas currently stands as 3.5-point favorites and has a 64.29% implied chance of winning according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
