The Packers’ defense suffers another blow.
The Green Bay Packers began their Thanksgiving game against the Miami Dolphins on a strong note, with Keisean Nixon recording the team’s longest kickoff return of the season at 43 yards. Unfortunately, the play came at a cost, as cornerback Corey Ballentine, who had provided crucial blocking for Nixon, injured his knee during the play.
Initially, Ballentine was listed as “questionable” to return due to his knee injury, but later, the Packers decided to rule the 28-year-old cornerback out for the remainder of the game, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Entering the game, the Packers were already dealing with uncertainty at left cornerback, as Jaire Alexander was still recovering from a knee injury. However, it seems Ballentine’s absence hasn’t had a significant impact on the team’s performance.
With both Ballentine and Alexander unavailable, the Packers turned to Nixon, Eric Stokes, and Robert Rochell to fill in as the primary cornerbacks. So far, they have done a solid job containing the Dolphins’ offense. As of the third quarter, the Packers are leading 27-11 with just over two minutes remaining and are on track to secure their ninth win of the season, as long as they maintain their focus and avoid any late mistakes.
Packers’ defense is holding strong against the Dolphins
The first half showcased a defensive masterclass from the Packers as they effectively neutralized the Dolphins. Miami managed to score only a field goal, and the Packers’ defense shut down their deep threats, forcing the Dolphins into short passes. As a result, Green Bay forced two punts and a turnover on downs in the first 30 minutes.
However, the Packers must remain cautious of the Dolphins’ offensive potential. Tyreek Hill can strike quickly, and Raheem Mostert is also a constant threat. Despite missing their top defensive player, Jaire Alexander, the Packers’ defense has held firm. Now, the key for Green Bay is to manage the game, and Jordan Love seems to have that skill under control.
