The Houston Astros are working hard to re-sign their star third baseman, Alex Bregman, this offseason. Reports indicate that Houston has offered Bregman over $150 million, but it appears he is seeking around $200 million.
Spotrac forecasts him to sign a four-year, $119 million deal, making both figures significantly higher than his projected value. However, FanSided’s MLB insider, Robert Murray, believes Bregman may not return to Houston. Based on his intuition, Murray suggests that Bregman could reunite with manager AJ Hinch in Detroit.
Murray points out that the Tigers, under Hinch, have made significant strides and look ready to contend in the American League Central. With a young roster and the financial flexibility to sign a star, Detroit seems like a natural fit for Bregman, especially given his previous connection with Hinch during their time together in Houston.
Murray also mentions that while the Astros and Bregman have had productive talks and Bregman remains their top priority, the Tigers are a strong potential destination for the 30-year-old if negotiations fall through.
At this moment, the Astros are still considered the frontrunners to re-sign him, but the increasing number of experts predicting a Bregman-Hinch reunion in Detroit cannot be overlooked. The Tigers would benefit from adding Bregman to their roster, especially at third base, but it’s uncertain whether they would be willing to offer him a deal worth over $200 million.
