With the NFL Week 14 action looming, Green Bay Packers DT Jack Heflin has finally signed a contract with a new franchise.
Jack Heflin’s football journey has been filled with ups and downs since he joined the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent three years ago.
After struggling to make an impact in his limited rookie appearances, Heflin didn’t play at all during the 2022 season. He was released before the season ended and went on to have short stays on the practice squads of the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints, with a stint in the XFL in between.
Nearly a year has passed since Heflin last played an NFL game, but that could soon change following the news on Tuesday.
Packers News: Rams Sign DT Jack Heflin to Practice Squad
The news marks a long-awaited moment for Heflin, who has been working toward an NFL return ever since his standout performance in the XFL in 2023. He signed with the Saints last season, aiming to secure a spot on their roster, but the former Iowa defender was limited to the practice squad before being released in August.
Now, Heflin faces another chance to prove himself. The 6-foot-3, 304-pound defensive tackle struggled to capitalize on his previous (albeit limited) opportunities, recording only two solo tackles while playing 70 total snaps (57 defensive, 13 special teams) across five games.
The Rams are ranked as the fifth-worst team in tackling according to Pro Football Focus, and it remains to be seen whether Heflin’s addition can help improve their performance. During his time with the Packers, Heflin earned a solid 69.6 tackle grade.
Heflin’s first chance to debut with the Rams will come when they host the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
