The Minnesota Twins have signed Huascar Ynoa to a minor league contract, with an invitation to Spring Training, according to Sports Illustrated’s Stephanie Apstein (X link). The right-hander’s deal is non-guaranteed.
Ynoa spent parts of four seasons with the Braves from 2019 to 2022, reaching a career-high 91 innings in 2021. During his time in Atlanta’s rotation, filling in due to injuries, Ynoa posted a 4.05 ERA, a 26.9% strikeout rate, and a 6.7% walk rate. He was one of the unexpected contributors who helped the Braves win the World Series. However, a shoulder injury sidelined him from the NLCS roster, and he also missed three months of the regular season after breaking his hand in frustration following a rough outing.
It’s been a tough few years for Ynoa, filled with injuries and setbacks, but his potential is still there. After missing the 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery and battling a stress reaction in his elbow this year, he’s now with the Minnesota Twins, the team that originally signed him in 2014.
At just 26 years old, there’s still hope for Ynoa to find some stability and get back to pitching at a high level, and the Twins are betting on his upside with minimal risk involved. If he can stay healthy, the Twins may have found a valuable arm with a strong pedigree.
