Packers Shut Down First-Round Pick in Devastating Injury Move.

The Green Bay Packers have decided to end the 2024 rookie season of first-round offensive lineman Jordan Morgan due to a recurring shoulder injury that has limited him to just six games. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed the news during the December 18 episode of the “Matt LaFleur Podcast,” stating, “Yeah, he’s done for the year.”

Morgan, selected 25th overall in 2024, has been battling the shoulder issue since training camp in August and has not played since starting at left guard in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions. He will be placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the season, finishing his rookie year with only 186 offensive snaps.

As noted by NBC 26’s John Miller, Morgan was seen at practice in Week 15 with his right shoulder in a sling. LaFleur did not comment on whether Morgan had undergone surgery when asked about it during the podcast.

Morgan’s injury prevented him from competing for the starting right guard spot during training camp, and with him out for the rest of the season, 2022 third-round pick Sean Rhyan is expected to hold onto the starting role for the remainder of the year.

The Packers (10-4) will face the New Orleans Saints (5-9) at Lambeau Field for Monday Night Football in Week 16 on December 23 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
