Wingate cornerback Joseph Reddish, brother of current Hokie Quentin, committed to the Hokies on Monday through the transfer portal.
The Virginia Tech football program has a long history of brothers playing together in Blacksburg, and this holiday season, another sibling duo has joined the ranks. On December 23, two days before Christmas, Wingate transfer Joseph Reddish, the older brother of Virginia Tech’s Quentin Reddish, officially committed to the Hokies. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound cornerback entered the transfer portal earlier this month and chose Virginia Tech to help bolster the depth in the secondary under head coach Brent Pry.
Joseph, a sophomore this past season at Wingate, had an impressive 2023 campaign with 33 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, one sack, and a blocked field goal in 11 games. However, he did not play any snaps in 2023, meaning he will have three years of eligibility remaining as he heads to Virginia Tech.
This addition is significant for the Hokies both on the field and in terms of family ties, as Joseph’s younger brother, Nick Reddish, is a three-star cornerback in the Class of 2026 and could make it a trio of Reddish brothers at Virginia Tech in the future.
For head coach Brent Pry, the commitment of Joseph Reddish addresses an immediate need in the secondary. He is the second cornerback to join the Hokies through the transfer portal this cycle, following East Carolina’s Isaiah Brown-Murray, who committed to Tech on Saturday. The Hokies’ cornerback room needed replenishment after Dorian Strong declared for the NFL Draft, Mansoor Delane transferred to LSU, and Jonathan Pennix entered the portal.
Virginia Tech is still pursuing additional transfers for the secondary, but in addition to Joseph Reddish and Brown-Murray, the Hokies have also added safeties Sherrod Covil Jr. from Clemson and Tyson Flowers from Rice. Although the NCAA Dead Period is now in effect, preventing players from visiting schools, it doesn’t stop them from committing, making this another significant pickup for the Hokies during the current transfer cycle.
