The Atlanta Braves have a tradition of welcoming back former players later in their careers, but that won’t be the case for veteran utility infielder Ehire Adrianza. Over the holiday, Adrianza took to Instagram to announce his retirement from baseball after a 12-year MLB career. A member of Atlanta’s 2021 World Series championship team, Adrianza also played for five other Major League clubs.
After departing the Braves for a second time following the 2023 MLB season, Ehire Adrianza had a short stint with the Los Angeles Angels. Throughout his 12-year career, the Venezuelan native also played for the San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins, and Washington Nationals. Primarily a utility infielder, Adrianza’s reliable defense and timely hitting were key factors in sustaining his lengthy MLB career.
In his farewell message, Adrianza expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities he was given throughout his career.
“I can hardly believe I’ve had the privilege of playing over a decade in the major leagues. I never dreamed I would accomplish so much, and looking back on this journey feels truly incredible.”
So far this offseason, the Braves have yet to make any significant moves to shift the balance. Their most notable action has been allowing former All-Star pitcher Max Fried to sign a massive eight-year deal with the New York Yankees—a contract Atlanta was unlikely to match. As for Ehire Adrianza, the past two seasons likely signaled to him that it was the right time to retire.
Over 12 MLB seasons, Ehire Adrianza posted a .237 batting average, hit 22 home runs, and recorded 151 RBIs while playing for five different teams.
Ehire Adrianza retires, making another Atlanta Braves reunion impossible
What stands out most about Adrianza’s two stints with the Braves is how closely they aligned with the team’s success. He often stepped in to cover infield roles when injuries hit, and while his performance wasn’t necessarily flashy, his presence during the peak of their current run highlighted his value to the team.
These “glue guys” are essential for building and maintaining a culture of winning excellence. Their willingness to step in and contribute at any opportunity underscores the importance of every at-bat, pinch run, and defensive substitution. Whenever Adrianza was on the field for the Braves, it felt like the team had a steady hand to prevent things from unraveling. The ability to find ways to win, even when circumstances are tough, is a critical component of sustained success.
In the end, Adrianza will be remembered in Braves history for being part of the 2021 World Series championship team, much like those from the 1995 squad have been honored. Atlanta excels at taking care of its alumni and involving them in the team’s ongoing legacy. While Adrianza had stints with other teams, his role with the Braves will always hold a special place in Braves Country.
Congratulations on a remarkable career, Ehire Adrianza! Braves Country wishes you all the best in your retirement and thanks you for your contributions to the team’s success.
