South Carolina strengthened its secondary for the 2025 season with a notable addition from the MAC, as the Gamecocks revealed the signing of defensive back Myles Norwood on Thursday.
The 6-foot-1, 183-pound player from St. Louis is transferring from Ball State, meaning he will face a significant jump in competition next fall as he moves to the SEC.
According to On3, Myles Norwood’s final two options were South Carolina and Kentucky, and he ultimately chose Columbia over Lexington.
In 2024, the junior recorded 38 tackles, including 22 solo, 2 tackles-for-loss, 10 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery for Ball State. Pro Football Focus gave him a solid coverage grade of 71.8 over 456 snaps in 12 games. Most of his snaps were at outside cornerback, although he also played 48 snaps at nickel, 35 of which came in a single game.
With several defensive backs leaving for the NFL Draft or the transfer portal, Kentucky could have greatly benefited from Norwood’s presence. Instead, he chose to join an SEC rival.
Norwood is expected to be a key player in South Carolina’s secondary in 2025 after quickly earning a role at Ball State.
