The Braves are considering signing another $55 million All-Star infielder to strengthen squad depth

Orlando Arcia’s underwhelming offensive performance is prompting the Atlanta Braves to explore potential infield upgrades for next season and beyond. Arcia, who posted a .218 batting average and a .625 OPS in 2024 while serving as the Braves’ primary shortstop, has not provided the offensive spark the team needs to compete at the highest level, especially against teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

With the window to add a capable infielder closing, the Braves have identified Jorge Polanco as a possible solution. Although Polanco had one of the worst seasons of his career offensively in 2024, hitting just .213 with the Seattle Mariners, he has a solid career track record.

Over his career, he boasts a .262 batting average and a 109 OPS+ (with 100 being average). The Mariners struggled offensively as a team last season, which may have contributed to Polanco’s poor numbers.

Joining a high-powered offense like the Braves’ could help Polanco reset mentally and rediscover his form. His proven ability to hit at a high level over the years makes him a strong candidate to improve Atlanta’s lineup.

The Braves could potentially sign him to a four-year, $54.7 million deal, though his rough 2024 season may present an opportunity to acquire him for less. If hitting coach Tim Hyers can help Polanco return to his former self, the Braves could enhance their offensive balance and boost their chances of contending in the NL East.
