Jose Iglesias missed the entire 2023 season and half of 2024, but he made the most of his time with the New York Mets, hitting .337 and driving in 26 runs. Defensively, he offers versatility, capable of playing second base, shortstop, or third base.
At 34 years old, Jose Iglesias remains capable of handling an everyday role. However, the Yankees might choose to utilize him in a platoon situation at second base. With a projected salary of just $1.7 million for 2025, Iglesias is an affordable option for the team.
During his last full season with the Rockies in 2022, Jose Iglesias posted a .292 batting average and 47 RBI. Impressively, he hasn’t finished a season with a batting average below .250 since 2012, back when he was still establishing himself in the league.
Jose Iglesias appears to be a perfect fit for the Yankees. His defensive versatility would give Aaron Boone plenty of options to utilize him in different roles. Throughout his career, Iglesias has outperformed Gleyber Torres both at the plate and in the field.
