The Bearcats strengthened their edge-rushing depth through the transfer portal on Sunday, with Virginia Tech’s edge rusher C.J. McCray joining Cincinnati for his final year of eligibility.
Standing at 6-4 and weighing 251 pounds, McCray lost his starting role for the 2024 season after spending four years with the Hokies. He played only 64 defensive snaps in six games during his final season, finishing with a 51.8 PFF grade. Over the course of his career, McCray tallied 5.5 sacks across 675 defensive snaps.
McCray becomes Cincinnati’s second edge rusher addition, alongside Old Dominion’s Jaylon White-McClain. Both players will vie for the top edge-rushing roles, competing against Mikah Coleman, Marquaze Parker, and others.
