South Carolina Bridged Another $25.25M Deal Sign to Boost Their Corps of Players

South Carolina’s Dawn Staley has become the highest-paid coach in women’s basketball after signing a $25.25 million contract extension through the 2029-30 season. The deal, announced on Friday, includes an annual salary of $4 million, a $500,000 signing bonus, and a $250,000 annual escalator.

“Dawn Staley is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina,” said athletic director Jeremiah Donati, according to ESPN. “She has elevated the sport of women’s basketball both nationally and here on campus, and I am thrilled that she will continue to represent our University for many years.”

Staley, who became head coach of the Gamecocks in 2008, has led the team to three national championships and had a perfect 38-0 season in 2024. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have won eight SEC tournament titles and have posted a 165-15 record in the conference since the 2013-14 season.

Before signing the extension, Staley was earning $3.2 million this season, putting her on par with other top women’s basketball coaches like UConn’s Geno Auriemma ($3.34 million) and LSU’s Kim Mulkey ($3.25 million).
