Braves Swing Another $25 Million Blockbuster Trade

The Atlanta Braves have made a significant offseason acquisition by reaching an agreement on a free-agent deal with outfielder Jurickson Profar.

Jurickson Profar is coming off an impressive season with the San Diego Padres, but it’s likely the Braves have more moves planned.

According to FanSided’s Chris Landers, the Braves might follow up their signing of Jurickson Profar with a major trade. Landers predicts Atlanta will acquire pitcher Jordan Montgomery from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“Spencer Strider appears poised to return relatively early in the 2025 season, but the Braves could benefit from added depth and an additional arm to compete in the mix with Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder, Ian Anderson, and AJ Smith-Shawver once Strider is back,” Landers noted. “The Arizona Diamondbacks have made it clear that Jordan Montgomery is on the trading block, especially after signing Corbin Burnes this offseason. Atlanta could likely secure Montgomery by offering a mid-tier prospect and agreeing to cover around $10 million of his contract.”

“Montgomery struggled during the 2024 season, but it’s worth noting he was adjusting to a new team after signing in Spring Training. His prior performance is more reflective of his true capabilities, and he could be the reliable innings eater the Braves need, especially with the injury risks tied to Strider, Chris Sale, and Reynaldo Lopez.”

Montgomery presents an excellent buy-low opportunity at the moment.

The left-hander is coming off a tough season, and Arizona would likely cover a significant portion of his contract to facilitate a trade.

If Montgomery bounces back, the Braves could secure a significant bargain. If his struggles continue, they have the option to cut ties and rely on a younger player instead.
