Major Breaking: Tigers Locks Down Another Dream Star With Lucrative Deal

Each year, when MLB free agency hits, the Detroit Tigers aren’t typically considered major players in signing the top talent. Although they didn’t secure Juan Soto or Roki Sasaki, the Tigers still made a historic move with their latest signing.

The Detroit Tigers have signed pitcher Kenny Serwa to a minor-league contract, according to Tread Athletics. So, who is Kenny Serwa?

He’s a pitcher who recently gained attention on social media for throwing the fastest knuckleball ever recorded. Serwa’s knuckleball has hit speeds of up to 88.5 mph, with an average of around 87 mph. But he’s not just known for his speed. Serwa also throws a slower version of the pitch, which typically ranges between 5-10 mph slower than his fast knuckleball.

Incredibly, since the pitch-tracking era started in 2008, only three knuckleballs have ever reached speeds of 84 mph.

He’s not just a one-pitch wonder, though. The 27-year-old right-hander also throws a 94 mph four-seam fastball, along with a sinker and a curveball.

Serwa most recently pitched in the Independent American Association, where he posted a 4.22 ERA. Now, the Tigers are offering him an opportunity to make his mark in professional baseball. This will be his first chance to join an MLB organization, but he still has a long road ahead before reaching the big leagues.
