BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles have signed outfielder Dylan Carlson to a one-year contract worth $975,000, just months after he was non-tendered by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Carlson, a first-round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016, showcased his power with 18 home runs during his first full season in 2021. However, he has managed just 16 home runs since then.
Carlson batted .209 with three home runs and 25 RBIs across 96 games for the Cardinals and Rays in 2024. At 26 years old, the switch-hitter still offers potential upside and brings versatility with the ability to play all three outfield positions.
The Orioles lost right fielder Anthony Santander to free agency, with the slugger signing with Toronto, and have since added outfielder Tyler O’Neill. Competing for playing time in Baltimore’s outfield are Cedric Mullins, Colton Cowser, and Heston Kjerstad.
Carlson’s contract includes a $25,000 bonus if he accumulates 200 plate appearances.
