Since Dan Lanning arrived in Oregon in 2021 as head coach, he has quickly become one of the top recruiters in the country.
He has secured three consecutive top-10 recruiting classes in Eugene, including two top-five classes and back-to-back record-setting classes in program history.
In the 2025 recruiting cycle, Lanning and the Ducks made a major impact, signing several 5-star prospects, including top-ranked wide receiver Dakorien Moore and third-ranked cornerback Na’eem Offord.
On Thursday morning, it looks like Oregon’s 2025 class got even stronger, as one of their standout recruits earned a fifth star just a week before the final signing day of the cycle.
Safety Trey McNutt has earned a 5-star ranking in the On300, now sitting at No. 31 overall. He is also ranked as the second-best safety in the nation by On3, with expectations that he could make an immediate impact for the Ducks early in his career.
On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire praised Trey McNutt for having one of the most complete skill sets among back-half defenders in the country, highlighting his fluidity and foot speed during practices.
McNutt showcased his ability to smoothly move his hips and excel in man coverage during 1-on-1 drills, where he mirrored receivers and made plays at the catch point.
McNutt is part of an elite defensive back class at Oregon this cycle, alongside Na’eem Offord, 4-star cornerback Dorian Brew, and 4-star cornerback Brandon Finney. However, McNutt will face stiff competition for a starting role in Oregon’s safety group, with players like Purdue transfer Dillon Thieneman, Kingston Lopa, Peyton Woodyard, and others also vying for a spot.
