New York Yankees Lands Another Trade Spot OF $25 Million All-Star Third Baseman

The New York Yankees are beginning to feel the pressure of securing an infielder as the season nears. Both second and third base still require upgrades, and while all options remain on the table, action needs to be taken soon. While Alex Bregman isn’t entirely off the table, the Yankees may want to consider pursuing a trade for All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

In his first season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Suárez posted a .256 batting average, 30 home runs, and 101 RBIs. This marked his fourth consecutive season with at least 20 home runs and 75 RBIs across three teams. Additionally, Suárez was strong defensively, ranking in the 82nd percentile for range and outs above average according to Baseball Savant. Even at 33, he continues to excel at third base.

A potential trade could look like this:

New York Yankees receive: 3B Eugenio Suárez
Arizona Diamondbacks receive: RP Mark Leiter Jr., RHP Clayton Beeter (Yankees’ No. 19 prospect in 2024)

Will the Diamondbacks Pick Up Eugenio Suarez's 2025 Option?

Acquiring Suárez would significantly improve the Yankees’ infield, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. and D.J. LeMahieu to form a platoon at second base while bolstering the team’s defense. Suárez is under contract for $15 million in 2025, with a club option, but the Yankees would likely aim to extend him on a short-term deal.

In return, the Diamondbacks would receive Mark Leiter Jr., who recorded a 4.50 ERA split between the Yankees and Chicago Cubs. Although he had a slight down year, Leiter is expected to bounce back in 2025 and would provide Arizona with a reliable arm for their bullpen. Clayton Beeter would offer depth for the Diamondbacks’ rotation; he posted a solid 2.25 ERA in 2024 across 10 games, seven of which were starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
