Rumors have been circulating all offseason, and as the New York Yankees approach the start of spring training with pitchers and catchers reporting soon, the speculation is intensifying. It’s widely known across baseball that the Yankees are looking to trade veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman, and it appears he’s aware of this as well. Stroman recently unfollowed the Yankees on social media.
When asked by Max Goodman from NJ.com about Stroman cleaning up his Instagram and removing all Yankees-related posts, Yankees manager Aaron Boone downplayed it. “That had nothing to do with trade rumors or his feelings toward the organization,” Boone explained.
“I found out it’s just something he does every year, part of his usual routine. It’s much ado about nothing.” With the addition of Max Fried and the Yankees needing more flexibility with their payroll, it’s clear the team wants to trade Stroman and his $18.5 million salary for 2025.
However, Boone and the front office aren’t going to admit that publicly, as it could hurt their bargaining position. Instead, they’ll head into spring training, look to boost Stroman’s value, and wait for the right opportunity to strike.
