Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks received some disappointing news earlier this month when it was revealed that wide receivers coach Junior Adams would be leaving Eugene to join the Dallas Cowboys in the same role this offseason.
Adams had been considered one of the top coaches on Oregon’s staff, especially known for his ability to develop wide receivers.
He helped send players like Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Rome Odunze, Troy Franklin, and Tez Johnson to the NFL, among others. True to form, Lanning quickly bounced back with a strong replacement, with the news of the hire breaking late Saturday night.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Ducks are set to hire former Syracuse wide receivers coach Ross Douglas, who played a key role in helping the Orange achieve the No. 1 passing offense in the nation in 2024. Douglas also brings experience from the NFL, having worked as a defensive analyst and wide receivers coach for the New England Patriots.
A former player himself, Douglas competed for both the Michigan Wolverines and Rutgers Scarlet Knights before transitioning into coaching.
He will arrive in Eugene with the important task of developing a wide receiver corps brimming with talent, including returning players like Evan Stewart, Kyler Kasper, Justius Lowe, and Jeremiah McClellan, as well as incoming 5-star recruit Dakorien Moore, the top wide receiver in the 2025 class. Widely considered a rising star in coaching, this move represents a significant step forward for Douglas, who is expected to continue advancing in his career if he thrives at Oregon.
