CONTRACT ALERT*** Yankees Bridged Another Deal Signing With White Sox

Right-hander Owen White, who was designated for assignment by the Yankees last week, was claimed by the White Sox on Monday.

The Yankees removed White from their 40-man roster last Tuesday to clear space for left-hander Brent Headrick.

The Yankees originally claimed White off waivers from the Reds on Feb. 5. A former top prospect in the Rangers’ system, the 25-year-old right-hander has a 16.71 ERA over five major league appearances with Texas from 2023 to 2024. He spent most of last season with Triple-A Round Rock, where he recorded a 5.64 ERA across 29 games, including 15 starts.

In recent weeks, the Yankees have actively acquired high-upside arms, either placing them on the 40-man roster or inviting them to spring training as non-roster invitees. This month, left-handers Tyler Matzek, Jayvien Sandridge, and Rob Zastryzny were all added to the Yankees’ NRI list.

This isn’t the first time the White Sox have taken advantage of a Yankees pitcher on the waiver wire. Last summer, Chicago claimed Enyel De Los Santos, a trade deadline acquisition who struggled with the Yankees and appeared in only a few games. Ron Marinaccio was also briefly part of the White Sox system after the Yankees designated him for assignment last September, before he was traded to the Padres.

Chicago also signed former Yankees player Joey Gallo to a minor-league deal late last week. He will have the opportunity to earn a spot on their big-league roster as they approach Opening Day.
