The New York Yankees are reportedly pursuing third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals. While it’s uncertain if Arenado would waive his no-trade clause for a move to New York, earlier reports suggested he wouldn’t.
However, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the Yankees won’t give up on acquiring Arenado and predicts they will secure him before the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Miller stated, “Arenado Ends Season With: New York Yankees,” noting that Arenado had previously expressed a willingness to waive his no-trade clause for New York.
The Yankees might be compelled to take on Arenado’s remaining contract after unsuccessful experiments with Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza at third base. Arenado would be the perfect fit to complete the Yankees’ roster overhaul.

The key issue remains whether Arenado will waive his no-trade clause, but his decision might change if the Cardinals underperform as expected.
If the team struggles, potentially even finishing behind the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates, Arenado may reconsider and agree to the trade, especially with the Cardinals eager to move him. He would reunite with former teammate Paul Goldschmidt in the Bronx, filling an important role in the Yankees’ infield as they aim to reach the World Series.
