In a significant boost to their 2025 recruiting class, the South Carolina Gamecocks have secured a commitment from five-star combo guard Agot Makeer, the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect. Makeer announced her decision on March 1, 2025, choosing South Carolina over prominent programs like UConn and Michigan State.
Standing at 6-foot-1, Makeer hails from Toronto, Ontario, and currently plays for Montverde Academy in Florida. Her versatility allows her to excel in both guard positions and even adapt to a small forward role, offering the Gamecocks a dynamic and flexible option for the future.
Makeer’s journey has been marked by impressive performances, notably during her junior year at Crestwood Prep in Canada, where she averaged 17.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. She also played a pivotal role in Canada’s silver medal win at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup. Transitioning to Montverde Academy for her senior year, Makeer has continued to showcase her skills, averaging 10 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, despite facing injury challenges.
Her commitment to South Carolina not only enhances the team’s roster but also elevates their recruiting standing. Alongside Makeer, the Gamecocks have secured Ayla McDowell, the No. 22 player in the class, solidifying their position among the nation’s elite programs.
Makeer’s decision reflects her confidence in Coach Dawn Staley’s leadership and the program’s competitive environment. She expressed that South Carolina aligns with her aspirations and offers a challenging yet supportive atmosphere conducive to her growth.
As the Gamecocks prepare for the upcoming season, Makeer’s addition is anticipated to have a significant impact, further strengthening their pursuit of national championships.
