Could the Steelers bring back Javon Hargrave.!!!
The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely focus on addressing their quarterback position this offseason, but strengthening the defensive line is also a priority. One potential way to do this could be by selecting a defensive tackle in the first round of the draft, but free agency is another viable route. The team could even look to reunite with a familiar face—a former draft pick who could help bolster their defensive front.
Adam Schefter recently reported that the San Francisco 49ers plan to release defensive tackle Javon Hargrave when the new league year begins. Hargrave, a third-round pick in 2016, has dealt with injuries recently, including a triceps injury that limited him to just three games last season.
However, he still managed to rack up seven sacks in 2023 and demonstrated his ability to be a disruptive force both in the run game and as a pass rusher, earning his second Pro Bowl appearance. His standout performance came in 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he recorded a career-high 11 sacks and 60 tackles.
Hargrave was originally drafted by the Steelers out of South Carolina State in 2016, where he had a solid start to his career, especially in 2018 when he posted 6.5 sacks. Given the Steelers’ current needs and the potential for Hargrave to return at a reasonable price, bringing him back for a short-term deal could be a smart decision to reinforce their defensive line.
