When the NFL’s legal tampering period kicked off on Monday, the Bills took their time before making their first move. After waiting for three hours, they finally made a splash by reaching a three-year, $36 million deal with wide receiver Josh Palmer, which includes $18 million in guaranteed money.
Palmer, who previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers, is leaving behind Justin Herbert to catch passes from MVP Josh Allen. As he joins an offense without a clear top wide receiver, Palmer is likely to play a larger role in the passing game. While Khalil Shakir has emerged as a key target for Allen, the Bills are known for spreading the ball around.
Though Palmer’s addition is seen as a strong move by many, not everyone agrees, including Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report. Davenport evaluated several Day 1 signings and trades in free agency and gave the Bills’ acquisition of Palmer a disappointing D+ grade.
