Braves Found Perfect $3 Million Veteran As Sean Murphy Replacement As Confirmed His From A Good Team Too…

The Atlanta Braves will be without All-Star catcher Sean Murphy for the next few weeks as he recovers from a cracked rib. Given the physically demanding nature of the catcher position, it’s uncertain when Murphy will be able to return.

The Braves haven’t yet signed a replacement for their star catcher, but they still have time to make an addition if they choose to. Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently predicted that the Braves would sign veteran catcher James McCann from the Baltimore Orioles. McCann is expected to sign a $3 million deal in free agency, according to Spotrac.

Rymer noted that both McCann and Yasmani Grandal remain viable options, with Grandal excelling at pitch framing and McCann posting a solid .667 OPS in 2024, which is respectable by catcher standards. Rymer added that Grandal had turned down an offer from the Braves, and he boldly predicted that Atlanta would sign McCann for the entire season.

McCann, 34, posted a .234/.279/.388 slash line with eight home runs and nine doubles in 65 games for the Orioles last year. He is currently a free agent and is expected to be available for less than $5 million. With Murphy sidelined for the next few weeks, the Braves need to add depth at catcher.

McCann presents a better option than rushing prospect Drake Baldwin to the major leagues, as doing so could hinder his development. Signing McCann would be the more prudent choice for the Braves while they wait for Murphy’s return.
