The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to start their 2025 season next week, facing the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series. As the team prepares to defend its title after winning its eighth World Series championship last season, one of its former All-Stars is considering stepping away from the game.
Yasmani Grandal reportedly turned down a contract offer from the Atlanta Braves and is now contemplating retirement if no other opportunities arise. Baseball Writers’ Association of America member Francys Romero shared the news, tweeting: “Yasmani Grandal turned down an offer from the Braves about a month ago, according to sources.
He is hoping for other opportunities in the near future, but if those don’t materialize, he may be considering retirement.”

It is unclear why Grandal turned down the opportunity from the Braves, who are considered one of the best teams in baseball this season. His decision could have been related to the role he was offered; however, details of the offer have not been made public.
Yasmani Grandal played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2015 to 2018, spending four seasons with the team. He earned his first of two career All-Star appearances in his debut season. Over his time with the Dodgers, he posted a .238 batting average, 89 home runs, 245 RBIs, and a .790 OPS.
In his 13-year career, the veteran catcher has hit .236 with 194 home runs, 592 RBI, and a .769 OPS. Grandal spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for the San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, and Chicago White Sox.
