DETROIT – On Thursday, the Detroit Tigers acquired left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Horn had been designated for assignment by the Cardinals when they signed veteran reliever Phil Maton. In exchange, the Tigers sent cash considerations to finalize the trade.
This marks Horn’s second stint with the Tigers. Detroit had claimed him off waivers from the Boston Red Sox in November, but they DFA’d him the following month after signing second baseman Gleyber Torres.
Horn, 27, played college baseball at Auburn and was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2021, returned to the White Sox in February 2022, and then moved to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations in April.
In 2024, Horn had a solid season with Triple-A Worcester, posting a 2.15 ERA while striking out 35 batters over 29 innings. However, his command faltered at the MLB level, where he walked 10 and struck out 13 in 18 innings with the Red Sox.

Horn has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo and will not be part of the Tigers’ big-league camp or compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
The Tigers’ 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.
