Breaking: Vikings confirm signing of another key weapon in bridged trade with 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings traded for running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, sending a 2026 sixth-round pick and agreeing to a draft pick swap next month, according to multiple reports.

As part of the deal, the 49ers will receive the Vikings’ No. 160 pick, while Minnesota moves back to No. 187.

Mason, 25, was a restricted free agent and joins the Vikings after signing a new two-year contract worth $7 million guaranteed, with a maximum value of $12 million, per reports.

The Vikings are strengthening their running back depth after re-signing starter Aaron Jones, 30, to a two-year, $20 million extension, which was reportedly agreed to last week.

Mason, an undrafted free agent in 2022, spent three seasons with the 49ers. Last season, he made his first career starts, appearing in 12 games and starting six before landing on injured reserve in early December due to a high ankle sprain, which sidelined him for the final five games. He led the team in rushing with 153 carries for 789 yards and three touchdowns while also recording 11 receptions for 91 yards.

Mason started strong as a fill-in for star running back Christian McCaffrey, who was sidelined with an Achilles injury, surpassing 100 rushing yards in three of his first four games.

Over his career, he has totaled 236 carries for 1,253 yards and seven touchdowns, along with 14 receptions for 122 yards.
