The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in former New England Patriots defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale. Ekuale, a seven-year veteran, has been with the Patriots since 2021, starting 16 games last season due to the team’s injury woes.
Throughout his career, Ekuale has played across various positions, from nose tackle to five-technique, but he is expected to play between the five-technique and three-technique spots for the Steelers.
At 31, Ekuale recorded 52 tackles, one sack, 16 pressures, and 26 run stops last season, with his run stop and pressure totals either matching or surpassing those of Larry Ogunjobi.
Coming off the best season of his career, the Samoan-born player previously played college football at Washington State and spent his first three seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
With six career sacks, Ekuale has mainly been a key rotational player, a role he will likely fill with the Steelers. He is expected to replace Isaiahh Loudermilk and offer depth with Larry Ogunjobi now gone from the team.
