The Denver Broncos have committed $50 million in guaranteed contracts to Dre Greenlaw, Evan Engram, and Talanoa Hufanga during this offseason’s free agency. However, some veteran players, including John Franklin-Myers, are still waiting for new deals.
Franklin-Myers is among six Broncos starters—seven if nickelback Ja’Quan McMillian is included—who are heading into the final year of their contracts.
Unfortunately for Franklin-Myers, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic anticipates that his wait for a new deal will persist.
Kosmider highlighted the Broncos’ decision to retain their entire defensive line from last season, a unit that played a key role in Denver ranking No. 2 in run defense and contributing to a franchise-record 63 sacks. This success has naturally left several players eager for new contracts.

“One factor: If Denver does not target a playmaker in the first round, they’ll potentially be in a position to draft one of the top defensive linemen,” Kosmider noted on March 17.
“It’s one of the reasons I don’t anticipate any extension decisions being made until after the draft,” Kosmider explained.
Franklin-Myers is among several Broncos starters with expiring contracts, including Alex Singleton, Courtland Sutton—who skipped OTAs in 2024 due to contract concerns—Luke Wattenberg, Nick Bonitto, and Zach Allen.
Delaying extension decisions until after the draft could leave less money available for Franklin-Myers and other veterans seeking new deals.
His future with the team would become even more uncertain if the Broncos select a defensive lineman with the No. 20 pick.
