Major Breaking: Gamecocks earn No. 1 seed in NCAA Tournament

South Carolina women’s basketball has secured the NCAA Tournament’s No. 1 seed in the Birmingham region, marking their fifth consecutive year as a No. 1 seed ¹. This is a testament to their reputation as a budding dynasty, having won two national titles in the last three years. They’ll be hosting No. 16 seed Tennessee Tech in Columbia as they chase their third title in four years ¹.

The University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball team, the Gamecocks, have earned a prestigious spot in the NCAA Tournament, marking their 12th consecutive appearance. As the No. 1 seed in Region 2, based in Birmingham, Alabama, they will have the privilege of hosting the first and second-round games at their home arena, Colonial Life Arena, this upcoming weekend.

In the First Round, the Gamecocks will face off against the No. 16 seed, Tennessee Tech, on Friday at Colonial Life Arena. If they secure a win, they will advance to the next round, where they will compete against the victor of the matchup between No. 8 seed Utah and No. 9 seed Indiana on Sunday, also at Colonial Life Arena.

Although they didn’t secure the No. 1 overall seed for the first time since 2021, they’re still making their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and extending their streak to 13 consecutive appearances
