Huge Boost: Red Wings Predicted To Land This $57.75 Million Defenseman In A Blockbuster Deal

The Detroit Red Wings are looking to strengthen their defense and are expected to sign a top defenseman in free agency.

On the website PuckPedia, which lets users propose trades and signings, one user suggested that the Red Wings will ink Jakob Chychrun to a seven-year deal worth $8.25 million per season, totaling $57.75 million.

Chychrun is in the final year of his six-year, $27.6 million contract, which pays him $4.6 million annually, and is expected to receive a significant pay increase.

Currently playing for the Washington Capitals, Chychrun is having a career-best season. He has already set new personal bests in points and is tied for his highest goal total. In 62 games this season, he has tallied 18 goals, 24 assists, and 42 points.

Should Detroit sign Chychrun, he would likely play as a top or second-pair defenseman and could contribute to the power play. He would also take over for Jeff Petry, who is set to become a free agent and has underperformed offensively.

The Red Wings are projected to have just over $22 million in salary cap space this offseason.
