Breaking: Marlins Injury Worsen As Their Hard-nosed Weapon Is Down With Another Career Ending Injury.

The Miami Marlins have suffered another setback to their starting rotation. Left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers, expected to be the team’s No. 2 starter behind ace Sandy Alcantara, has been diagnosed with a left forearm strain and will begin the season on the injured list.

Weathers first reported discomfort on Tuesday and will be shut down from throwing for approximately two weeks. His estimated return timeline is four to six weeks.

The 25-year-old posted a 3.63 ERA over 86 2/3 innings across 16 starts last season. He was strong through his first 13 starts before a left index finger injury in June sidelined him until mid-September.

The Miami Marlins’ injury woes continue, with Ryan Weathers becoming the second starting pitcher—and third key player overall—sidelined in the past week.

Weathers joins right-hander Edward Cabrera on the injured list, with Cabrera set to miss at least the first two turns through the rotation due to a blister on his right middle finger. Additionally, left-hander Braxton Garrett is already out for the season after undergoing UCL revision surgery with an internal brace in December. Outfielder Jesús Sánchez will also start the season on the injured list due to a left oblique strain.

With these setbacks, the Marlins are left with just three established starters: Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, and Cal Quantrill. Swingman Connor Gillispie is expected to fill one of the final two spots, while Valente Bellozo or Adam Mazur—both recently optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville—are the most likely internal candidates to round out the rotation.
Eury Pérez is expected to be cleared to play around the All-Star Break, potentially providing a much-needed boost to the Miami Marlins’ injury-plagued rotation.
