Breaking: Red Sox Top Experienced Veteran Finds New Home With Rivals

Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has found a new team.

The Atlanta Braves announced on Thursday that they have signed Verdugo to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. The 28-year-old will start in Triple-A Gwinnett.

According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic on Tuesday, Verdugo did not receive any major league offers this offseason, which surprised his former New York Yankees teammates. As a result, he accepted a significant pay reduction, dropping from an $8.7 million salary last season to join the Braves.

Verdugo had a rough season with the Yankees last year, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 61 RBIs with a .647 OPS over 149 games. He was part of the Yankees’ World Series run but became the final out in Game 5, a tough distinction.

The experienced outfielder would provide depth behind Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris II, and Jarred Kelenic if he is called up to the major league roster.
