Tyler Herro’s brother has entered the South Carolina basketball transfer portal.

Austin Herro will seek a new team after one year at South Carolina.

Austin Herro, the younger brother of Miami Heat star Tyler Herro, has decided to enter the college basketball transfer portal after just one season at South Carolina. According to On3 Sports, the guard’s decision comes after a freshman season in which he appeared in 10 games, playing only 14 minutes in total. His only points came in a blowout loss to Florida on February 15. Throughout the season, he registered two points, two rebounds, and one assist.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Austin Herro hails from Whitnall High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but unlike his older brother, he wasn’t highly recruited out of high school. He started his South Carolina career as a preferred walk-on and eventually earned the final scholarship slot on the team.

Austin will have up to four years of eligibility remaining. He could potentially apply for a redshirt season since he played less than 33% of the team’s games during the 2024-2025 season.

Meanwhile, Tyler Herro has been thriving with the Miami Heat, posting career highs in points (23.6), rebounds (5.3), and assists (5.6). His performance, especially in the absence of Jimmy Butler, led to his first career All-Star appearance in February.
