Breaking: Dodgers Links Trade With Yankees In Major Signing for All-Star Pitcher in Intriguing Deal

The New York Yankees are looking to bolster their rotation, and one MLB analyst has suggested they could pursue a trade for an All-Star pitcher.

MLB analyst Zach Pressnell of Newsweek suggests that the Yankees should target a trade for Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin.

“But it wouldn’t be crazy to think the Dodgers could explore trading Gonsolin once he returns from injury, and the Yankees would be the perfect landing spot,” Pressnell wrote. “New York would have to give up quality prospects to acquire the right-hander, but it’s a deal that could benefit both teams. If the Yankees build a package around Everson Pereira for Gonsolin, both sides could come out ahead.”

“Pereira would join the Dodgers’ Triple-A team as he works to surpass James Outman and earn a spot in Los Angeles’ outfield,” Pressnell added. “Meanwhile, Gonsolin would immediately bolster the Yankees’ rotation, giving them a much-needed boost with Cole and others sidelined.”

With eight big-league starters, the Dodgers could look to move one, and Gonsolin—a 2022 All-Star—seems like a logical trade candidate. A return featuring Pereira and another prospect would likely be enough to make a deal happen.

Gonsolin is set to earn $5.4 million in 2025 and remains under team control through 2026. After missing the entire 2024 season due to injuries, he posted an 8-5 record with a 4.98 ERA across 20 starts in 2023.

Yankees GM Looking to Add Another Pitcher

New York has a pressing need in their rotation with Gerrit Cole out for the season and reigning Rookie of the Year Luis Gil also sidelined.

With two of their top starters sidelined, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will explore options in free agency and trade. However, he acknowledges that making a move at this stage is challenging.

“We’ll just evaluate what’s available, and this time of year, very little is available,” Cashman said. “Normally, the more significant opportunities don’t arise until the Trade Deadline. We’ve had these conversations many times before—you hope to withstand and avoid injuries from Spring Training through the Draft because seeking external options is much more difficult. So, we’ll rely on what we have and explore the limited options in the marketplace.”

The Yankees’ rotation is projected to include Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Clarke Schmidt, Marcus Stroman, and Carlos Carrasco.

New York is set to open its 2025 MLB season at home on March 27 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gonsolin Begins Season on IL

Gonsolin was competing for the Dodgers’ fifth starter spot during spring training but suffered an injury that took him out of contention.

“As far as the fifth starter, I think it’s Dustin,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told Dodgers Territory. “He’s pitched well getting back, and with Tony’s little hiccup preventing him from building up, I think Dustin makes a lot of sense.”

Gonsolin sustained a back injury while lifting weights, forcing him to start the 2025 MLB season on the injured list.
