Breaking: Steelers’ top Experienced offensive Man Lands With NFL South Rivals

The Jacksonville Jaguars are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Fred Johnson. Johnson is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played a significant role as a depth player and earned a Super Bowl Championship.

With the Jaguars, Johnson could have the opportunity to earn more playing time. His ability to play multiple positions, from tackle to both guard spots, makes him a versatile depth option, a quality highly valued in the NFL.

In 2024, as the Eagles dealt with injuries, Johnson started six games, including four at left tackle and two at right tackle. The Jaguars have signed him to a one-year deal to bolster their offensive line depth.

Johnson, an undrafted free agent from Florida in the 2019 NFL Draft, initially stayed with the Steelers through his first training camp. Although he made the roster, he was released and claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals.

When he did play, Johnson showed inconsistency. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed five sacks and hurries over four games at left tackle while filling in for starter Jordan Mailata.

A Florida native, this move represents a return home for the 6-foot-7, 325-pound tackle. Should anything happen to starter Walker Little, Johnson may get another opportunity to step in for the Jaguars.
