The Houston Astros cut ties with outfielder Ben Gamel and left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks on Saturday.
Gamel’s release comes just under two months after he signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract, which included a $200,000 signing bonus and a $1 million salary that was not guaranteed. Instead of his salary, the Astros will pay Gamel 45 days of termination pay, totaling $241,036.
The 32-year-old Gamel batted .167 in 24 spring training at-bats. Last season, he hit .259 with one home run in 20 games for the Astros.

Beeks, 31, allowed one run over four innings in spring training. In 2024, he posted a 7-4 record with a 4.50 ERA across stints with Colorado and Pittsburgh. He also recorded 10 saves, nine of them with the Rockies.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro and infielder Luis Guillorme were informed they would not be part of the Astros’ opening day roster but will stay with the team throughout spring training.
