DETROIT (WILX) – The Detroit Tigers have made a late addition to their outfield, signing veteran center fielder Manuel Margot to a one-year major league contract just days before the season opener on March 27.
The 30-year-old Margot brings nine seasons of MLB experience to Detroit. He appeared in 129 games for the Minnesota Twins last year and participated in 2025 spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers before opting out of a minor league deal and being released. Now, he joins the Tigers on a major league contract, pending a physical.

Margot is expected to take over as Detroit’s primary center fielder while Parker Meadows recovers from an arm injury.
The Tigers will open their season on the road with a three-game series against the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The first game is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, at 7:10 p.m.
