After the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, former wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins took off his Chiefs gear for the last time and prepared for free agency. Traded by the Tennessee Titans to the Chiefs during the 2024 season due to the team’s struggles with injuries at the wide receiver position, Hopkins didn’t have much of an impact in Kansas City, receiving limited targets. Now, Hopkins is playing for the Baltimore Ravens, where he is reunited with his friends, quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry.
Despite his limited role with the Chiefs, Hopkins holds no ill will toward head coach Andy Reid or quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He expressed his disappointment about not being utilized more frequently. “I have definitely been in situations the past couple of years,” Hopkins said to reporters last week. “I have only gotten a couple of targets, so for me, it has never really bothered me.” He added that he understands football is a business, and sometimes things don’t go the way you’d hope. “I embrace it. You got to realize and understand that this is a business and that’s how it goes,” Hopkins explained.
Although he was used for less than 50 percent of the Chiefs’ offensive plays, DeAndre Hopkins is excited for a fresh start with the Baltimore Ravens, eager to team up with quarterback Lamar Jackson in hopes of helping him secure his first Super Bowl title. “I think Lamar being the leader of this team is part of the reason that I came here,” Hopkins said. “What he stands for and how he led this team and this organization to the playoffs in multiple years. And since he has been here, just how he has led any receiver group he has had. I think that played a big part in me coming here for sure.”
