DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers officially announced the signing of veteran outfielder Manuel Margot on Monday night.
To make room for Margot, outfielder Parker Meadows was moved to the 60-day injured list.
Meadows, who was expected to be the Tigers’ starting center fielder, sustained an injury during the first game of spring training a month ago and has been dealing with a persistent nerve issue in his right arm. He won’t be eligible to return until late May.
Margot, 30, is a right-handed hitter known for his success against left-handed pitching.
He has spent four seasons each with the San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays, earning a reputation for strong defense across all three outfield positions.
However, he is coming off the worst season of his career with the Minnesota Twins, posting a .626 OPS (76 OPS+) in 343 plate appearances, with defensive metrics indicating a decline.
After remaining unsigned for some time, Margot eventually landed a minor-league deal with the Brewers in February.
Originally signed by the Boston Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic, he was traded to the Padres in 2015 as part of the Craig Kimbrel deal.
