The NFL offseason is still in its early stages, and the Dallas Cowboys have plenty of time to strengthen their roster. So far, this offseason has been more active than last year’s, which doesn’t say much given the Cowboys’ lack of moves in 2024. However, Dallas is in a much better position now compared to this time last year.
That said, there are still areas for improvement, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. If the Cowboys want to add another cornerback, there are a few options available, with Marlon Humphrey from the Baltimore Ravens being a potential target.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports suggested the possibility of the Ravens trading Humphrey to the Cowboys, highlighting the uncertainties surrounding Trevon Diggs’ future.
“The Cowboys lost a key free agent in Jourdan Lewis, but they’re taking a chance on Kaiir Elam after trading for him from the Bills. While Trevon Diggs is returning, his future remains uncertain despite signing a long-term deal two years ago. The same goes for DaRon Bland, who’s been battling injuries, but the team will likely play it by ear. They should seek an immediate solution, and Marlon Humphrey could be a solid veteran who would make a significant impact on the team’s secondary,” Palacios wrote.
Could Humphrey Be Traded? The Baltimore Ravens, much like the Cowboys, need to make significant improvements to be true Super Bowl contenders. While Lamar Jackson gives the Ravens a chance, the team is not in the best position to compete for the AFC title, and trading Humphrey might not necessarily change that. However, the cap savings the Ravens could gain from trading the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback could make it worthwhile.
According to Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department, trading Humphrey would free up $12.7 million in cap space for the Ravens.
“The Ravens, like many contenders, are tight against the cap and have several aging players becoming increasingly costly. Marlon Humphrey and Mark Andrews are prime examples. Both players represent significant cap savings if traded. Humphrey alone could free up $12.7 million, while trading Andrews would save $11 million,” Bleacher Report reported.
Would Humphrey Help the Cowboys? The Cowboys would need to absorb Humphrey’s remaining contract, but if he plays at the level he did earlier in his career, he would be worth the investment. Humphrey earned a first-team All-Pro selection in 2024, though his performance in 2023 wasn’t as strong.
The financial aspect could be a deciding factor for both the Ravens and Cowboys. Humphrey is set to earn $15.3 million in 2026, so if the Cowboys are in a win-now mode, he could be a valuable addition.
At just 28 years old, Humphrey still has plenty of football left in him. For a team like the Cowboys, looking to contend as early as next season, he could be exactly the kind of player they need.
