Since Tyreek Hill’s departure in 2022, the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled to rebuild their wide receiver corps. While they’ve added promising young talents like Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy in recent drafts, the group has lacked the same explosive playmaking ability Hill provided. To address that, Kansas City has brought in Marquise “Hollywood” Brown during the 2024 and 2025 offseasons.
However, Brown will turn 28 before next season begins, meaning his speed may decline in the coming years. Because of this, the Chiefs could be looking to add another young deep threat who can eventually step in as his replacement.
Kansas City might look to acquire such a player in this year’s draft or through a trade. In a recent article, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggested that the Chiefs should pursue a trade for Indianapolis Colts speedster Alec Pierce. While a deal seems unlikely, Knox presents a compelling argument for why Indianapolis might be willing to part ways with him.
Could Kansas City Trade for Alec Pierce?
Knox highlights the Colts’ depth at wide receiver as a key reason they might consider trading Pierce. While that’s a valid point, Indianapolis struggled to maximize the production of players like Michael Pittman last season. Despite that, Pierce emerged as a big-play threat, leading the team with 824 receiving yards on just 37 receptions—an impressive 22.3 yards per catch.
In his first two seasons, Pierce averaged 14.5 yards per catch in 2022 and increased that to 16.1 yards per catch in 2023. These numbers highlight his ability as a true deep threat, making him a valuable asset for Kansas City’s vertical passing game—even if he starts as a rotational player off the bench.
However, with 2025 being a contract year for Pierce, he may not be interested in joining the Chiefs as a rotational receiver. Still, if this trade catches the attention of Brett Veach, he should make every effort to bring Pierce to Kansas City, as a potential contract extension might not come at a steep cost.
