Virginia Tech is among the Top 7 for a top-tier in-state wide receiver in the Class of 2026.

The Hokies are in on an elite in-state Class of 2026 wide receiver with other top programs.

One area where Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff have excelled is recruiting within the state of Virginia. Whether it’s bringing in players through the transfer portal or attracting high school talent, the fourth-year coach has been making a significant impact.

When Pry took over after the school parted ways with Justin Fuente, he knew that excelling in recruiting within the Commonwealth would be key to turning things around in Blacksburg. Recent recruiting cycles have shown success in this regard, but now, Pry and Fontel Mines face a challenge as they look to secure an elite wide receiver from the Class of 2026.

Virginia Tech currently has one commit in the Class of 2026, wide receiver Carnell Warren, who pledged a couple of months ago. Now, the Hokies have secured a spot in the Top 7 for Virginia’s top wide receiver, four-star Travis Johnson, according to 247Sports, who recently narrowed his list on Friday.

That’s a loaded list that Johnson has, but the fact that Virginia Tech made the list is a good sign. He has six visists lined up for May and June, with a trip scheduled to Blacksburg on June 20. He’s also working on setting up a visit to North Carolina and Bill Belichick.

Virginia Tech has some dynamic young receivers currently in the program, but Johnson, from Chesapeake, is the type of talent that the Hokies need in terms of play-making and overall presence on the field. The 6-foot-3, 165-pounder has a high skill set and can make plays all over the field.
