The Pittsburgh Steelers have once again overhauled their quarterback room for the second consecutive offseason. Both of last year’s starters are now in New York, with Russell Wilson signing a free-agent deal with the Giants and Justin Fields joining the Jets. While the Giants might still select a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft with the No. 3 overall pick, the Jets are moving forward with Fields as their starter for the 2025 season.
Jets general manager Darren Mougey expressed confidence in Fields, stating on Sunday, “We believe Justin is the starter. We believe in Justin. We believe we can win with Justin. We’re excited about Justin’s potential.” This will be Fields’ third team in as many seasons, following his trade to the Steelers last offseason.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn also praised Fields, telling NFL Media’s Judy Battista, “He has a quiet confidence about himself. He can really throw the deep ball really, really well. Obviously, his legs are something that’s dynamic, not just in college but in the NFL as well. I just think he’s ready to break out as a top-notch quarterback. So, he’s going to do everything he can to be one of the better ones, and we are going to coach our asses off to make sure he does a good job out there.”
Fields started six games for the Steelers last season, finishing with a 4-2 record before Russell Wilson, who had been recovering from a calf injury, took over. Wilson went 6-5 as Pittsburgh lost its final five games, including a Wild Card loss to Baltimore in the postseason.
