Breaking: Virginia Tech Getting Closer To Making Another Dream Come True By Committing A 5-Star WR.

The Hokies are in on an elite in-state Class of 2026 wide receiver with other top programs.

If there’s one area where Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry and his staff have excelled, it’s recruiting within the state of Virginia. Whether it’s bringing in players through the transfer portal or attracting high school recruits, the fourth-year coach has been making significant strides.

When Pry took the job after the school parted ways with Justin Fuente, he knew that one key to turning things around in Blacksburg was to dominate recruiting in the Commonwealth. Recent recruiting cycles have shown positive results, but right now, Pry and assistant coach Fontel Mines face a tough challenge in securing a top-tier receiver in the Class of 2026.

Virginia Tech makes Top 7 for elite Class of 2026 wide receiver

Virginia v Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech currently has one commit in the Class of 2026, wide receiver Carnell Warren, who pledged a couple of months ago. Now, the Hokies have made the Top 7 for Virginia’s top wide receiver, four-star Travis Johnson, according to 247Sports. Johnson revealed his narrowed list on Friday.

Travis Johnson’s list of schools is stacked, but the fact that Virginia Tech made the cut is a positive sign. He has six visits lined up for May and June, with a trip to Blacksburg scheduled for June 20. Johnson is also planning a visit to North Carolina and to meet with Bill Belichick.

While Virginia Tech already has some promising young receivers, Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 165-pounder from Chesapeake, is the kind of playmaker the Hokies need to boost their presence on the field. With a high skill set, he’s capable of making plays all over the field.

It’s likely that Fontel Mines is leading Johnson’s recruitment, and his recent success on the recruiting trail speaks volumes, giving Virginia Tech a strong chance to land this talented prospect.
