The Edmonton Oilers have signed David Tomasek, the 2024-25 Swedish Hockey League scoring leader, to a one-year, $1.2 million contract for the 2025-26 season.
This announcement comes on the same day the Oilers also signed German DEL forward Josh Samanski.
Tomasek joins the Oilers after two impressive seasons with Färjestad BK, where he led the Swedish Hockey League in points (57) and assists (33) during the 2023-24 season. The 29-year-old has also played in the KHL, Liiga, and Czech Extraliga, and he helped Czechia win gold at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. Before his professional career, he played junior hockey in the OHL.

He claimed the SHL scoring title with 24 goals and 33 assists (57 points) in 47 games for Färjestad BK. Over the past two seasons, he tallied 49 goals and 53 assists (102 points) in 99 games with the club.
With Tomasek signed, the Oilers now have 11 forwards on one-way contracts and no pending restricted free agents up front. After re-signing Evan Bouchard, their limited cap space means they’re unlikely to be active in free agency. As a result, they are relying on college and European signings to add depth.
The Oilers are hoping that some of these newly signed players, along with near-NHL-ready forwards like Matthew Savoie, can push for roster spots next season.
